JFA Background
Today,
several groups around Australia practise the jo as a classical
tradition. Practitioners train in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne,
Sydney, & Brisbane. The original Shinto
Muso Ryu Jo group today trains in Sydney, under the direction
of senior practitioner, Paul Maloney, who has received the
go-mokuroku scroll.
Paul
started his study of jo in Japan under the guidance of the
late Shimizu Takaji Sensei and Donn Draeger Sensei and returned
to Australia in 1973. Shimizu Sensei and Draeger Sensei's
wish for the promotion of Shinto Muso Ryu Jo worldwide has
been furthered by the Jodo Federation of Australia, a branch
of the International Jodo Federation, which was founded
by Draeger Sensei and is now led by Pascal Krieger Sensei.
